In 2018, Danielle and I embarked on an amazing thru-hiking expedition along the Appalachian Trail (AT), driven by two primary objectives. Our first goal was to undertake the formidable challenge of traversing the nearly 2,200-mile trail, a journey that would test our physical endurance and mental resilience. We anticipated spending approximately six months immersed in the wilderness, engaging with fellow hikers and experiencing the trail's diverse landscapes and natural wonders.

Our second objective was equally significant: to explore and connect with the small towns dotting the Appalachian Trail corridor. By traveling on foot, we sought to engage intimately with local communities, gaining a nuanced understanding of rural American culture. Staying in trail hostels provided us with unique opportunities for cultural exchange and personal growth.

Throughout our journey, the experience of continuous hiking and community interaction gradually crystallized our vision of potentially establishing our own hiker retreat—a dream that emerged organically from our transformative AT expedition. The trail's demanding nature, which typically takes 5-7 months to complete and challenges even the most prepared hikers, became a crucible for personal development and entrepreneurial inspiration.
